TAKING ON THE NORTH GREENWOOD CHALLENGE
Once known as the “Grove” for its beautiful citrus trees, the historic African American community of North Greenwood, Florida, entered a decline in the 1960s, with longstanding businesses closing down throughout the area and its social fabric coming undone.
Since the 1980s, work has been done to revitalize the neighborhood and The Way to Happiness (TWTH) Florida chapter is determined to contribute to this motion.
The chapter, headquartered less than a mile from North Greenwood, teamed up with “Adopt Greenwood” and the Martin Luther King Community Center for a 50-man clean up of the neighborhood.
In keeping with The Way to Happiness precept 12: “Safeguard and Improve Your Environment,” the volunteer team collected trash and distributed copies of The Way to Happiness booklets to more than 150 local households.

TWTH Florida chapter continued ambitious clean-ups for three consecutive weeks, on one occasion filling 40 large bags of garbage.
The President of the Martin Luther King Jr. Coalition in North Greenwood thanked the chapter for investing in the community and bringing others together to care for it. The chapter then visited North Greenwood stores and businesses, providing each enough copies of The Way to Happiness for their own use and to share with customers. Such distribution of the booklet has been known to reduce crime and fill a moral vacuum in communities.
Next came a job-training seminar which taught attendees how to apply the 21 precepts of The Way to Happiness to boost professional success. Seeing the book’s practicality, one attendee noted, “This isn’t just job training, this is training for life!” Many requested further information.
